Oftalmolog acknowledges the hard work that goes into making outstanding papers. Therefore, we award those taking these extra efforts for the betterment of the ophthalmology community with three Best Nordic Paper Awards: gold (NOK 80,000), silver (NOK 30,000) and bronze (NOK 15,000).
Criteria
There are two evaluation criteria, which have equal weight:
(1) how interesting the subject is to our readers;
(2) quality of language, pictures, illustrations, and figures.
Evaluation
The evaluation committee for the Best Nordic Paper Awards is appointed solely by the Editor-in-Chief, without any input from the Editorial Board Members. All members of the evaluation committee have to state full impartiality and confirm, in writing, that they have no association with any of the entries under consideration. The Editor-in-Chief of Oftalmolog is automatically excluded from receiving any awards or prize money. Any author may opt out of being evaluated for the awards, in which case there will be no other compensation.
Prize ceremony
The winners, with highlights of their papers, will be presented in the printed version of Oftalmolog. The awardees will be invited to share key points of their papers in conjunction with a brief prize ceremony. The video of the entire award session will, upon recipients’ approval, be published on our webpage and social media. The award money is generously donated by Thea, which has no influence on the award criteria or the appointment of the evaluation committee.
We encourage PhD students in ophthalmology and their colleagues in the Nordic region to notify Oftalmolog shortly after dissertations. In this way, we make sure that we can nominate outstanding theses for the Outstanding PhD Awards: gold (NOK 80,000), silver (NOK 30,000) and bronze (NOK 15,000).
Criteria
There are certainly many ways to evaluate theses. To avoid subjective evaluations and potential biases, the Editorial Board of Oftalmolog has concluded that CiteScore will be used as the criteria for determining the winners. The CiteScore for each journal where the dissertation articles were published will be summed and the three dissertations with highest total sum will win these prizes.
Evaluation
The Editorial Board of Oftalmolog will make sure that the calculations in the nominations are correct.
Prize ceremony
The winners, with highlights of their theses, will be presented in the printed version of Oftalmolog. The awardees will be invited to share key points of their theses in video format as well, which, upon recipients’ approval, will be published on our webpage and social media. This collaboration project between Oftalmolog and Santen aims to increase ophthalmology research and spread new innovations. Santen has no influence on the award criteria or choice of winner.
Oftalmolog is developing a platform for researchers, residents, and ophthalmologists to share presentations of their latest work. Oftalmolog acknowledges the hard work that goes into creating outstanding presentations. Therefore, we want to award those making the extra effort
for the betterment of the ophthalmology community by introducing three Oftalmolog Outstanding Presentation Awards: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. We hope to grow our repository of excellent presentations that are easily accessible to the Nordic community of ophthalmologists. The frequency and timing of the awards, as well as prize amount, will depend upon the number and quality of videos we received. For more information as this new initiative develops, follow us on Facebook and LinkedIn. Stay tuned!
